Mableton Community Garden - Nickajack Park
Nickajack Park at 3630 Oakdale Road
This was the first community garden in Cobb County, and is now entering its fifth year of opoeration.  It's an organic vegetable garden, consisting of 21 plots.  Community members sign up in the early spring and reserve their plots for the spring and fall growing seasons, if interested.  Cobb County Master Gardeners will provide gardening advice.  Plot rentals range from $35 to $55 for spring, summer and fall seasons, depending upon plot size.  Revenues are used for garden events and improvements.

There has already been a great deal of community involvement and collaboration to create this wonderful garden and we thank the many groups and individuals who have contributed so far:
  • The space is provided courtesy of Roy Barnes.
  • Cobb County Water Department installed a new water access point and White Oak Landscape Company installed a water line to service the garden.
  • Cobb County Master Gardeners provide ongoing technical support and donated two 4' X 8' raised beds, complete with top soil and mushroom compost!
  • Thanks also to the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) for funding and to Patterson Services, Inc., for three huge piles of top soil.
  • The ARC also provided funding for fencing and MIC provided volunteers to install it around the entire garden to keep smaller four-legged critters out.
  • A shed for tools, picnic table in the shade, and the sign were provided by AARP.
  • A Row for the Hungry was started to benefit local food shelters and is lovingly tended by AARP volunteers.
  • A Girl Scout troop built compost bins.
  • The local Boy's & Girls Club have a plot.
