Economic Development

MIC’s  Economic Development Committee focuses on promoting and enhancing economic development within the boundaries the 30126 zip code.  The MIC Board members on the Committee are Joel Cope, Rob Meglaughlin, Philippa Monthrope, and Greg Richardson.

The goals of this Committee are:

(1)  We want to attract quality businesses – professional services, shopping, restaurants --to Mableton.  Many have mentioned that they may wish for a specific business to put one of their locations in our area.  This committee is developing materials and will approach those businesses.

(2)  We want to support and encourage the citizens of Mableton to patronize those businesses that we already have here in our area that are providing those goods and services that we want and need.

(3)  We want to encourage beautification efforts such as street-scaping, sidewalks, lighting and so forth that make the area more attractive to citizens and businesses alike.

(4)  We want to encourage a process where Mableton and its citizens attract thoughtful and team-oriented developers to the downtown Mableton corridor/Floyd Road/Clay Road/Mable House area to help make the Master Plan for this area a reality.

In order to make sure we are meeting the needs of Mableton, we want to learn more about the opinions of Mable residents.  To do that, we will conduct some focus groups.  A focus group is  is a question-and-answer, brain-storming session for participants to provide input and opinions about a topic, theme or event.

In order to make sure we have a good cross-section of Mableton residents, we are sending out a survey to the MIC mailing list, asking for basic demographic information.  Invitations to participate in focus groups will be sent to some of those who reply to the online survey.

This committee is always open to new members and so if you have expertise in this area or if you have a passion for this area of volunteerism, please contact Joel Cope, the committee chairperson.

Cobb County has an Office of Economic Development and its Director is Michael Hughes.
