Greetings!!

Thank you Mableton!!

Turnout for meetings in and about Mableton was just wonderful!  Give yourselves a round of applause for making a great impression on our current and future government officials and for helping shape the plans for downtown Mableton.

Nearly every candidate at our Forum remarked on the large crowd and the well-informed questions.  Our partner for the event, the Austell Community Taskforce, helped us make connections in surrounding communities and discover how much we all have in common.  The evening was old-fashioned democracy at its best, with each candidate called upon for his or her position on important issues.  Just one more thing for you all to do - VOTE on July 20!  It really matters.

The downtown Mableton Design process is ongoing, but you can click here to watch the presentation made to county officials by the consultants or view the PDF of presentation. With the basic vision formed, work will now begin on writing the actual county ordinance that will be proposed for zoning and land use in the future.  We will keep you informed as this moves forward.

It's been a very busy time here in Mableton, and I'm looking forward to the July 4th holiday, as I know you are!  Enjoy your time with friends and family, and try to stay cool!

Regards,

Ben Clopper
MIC President

Voters in the Democratic and Republican primaries can vote for their party's nominee for State House and Senate seats, Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, U.S. Senate, Secretary of State, and other statewide offices.  Also on the primary ballot is Post 2 of the Cobb County School Board, which covers the northern part of Mableton.  Click here for information on these candidates.

New Community Garden on Floyd Road

A new community garden on the Barnes Property on Floyd Road will be joining MIC's existing Mableton Community Garden at Nickajack Park.  Ground will be broken later this year for the new Historic Mableton Community Garden, and plans are being made for a fall crop.

Residents of Mableton who are interested in working a plot should email Dave McDaniel or Cheryl Mayerik or call Dave at (404) 323-0608.

This effort has been coordinated by Cheryl Mayerik, the Lifelong Mableton coordinator from the Atlanta Regional Commission.

Thanks Cheryl!

Zoning News

There are no new zoning cases for Mableton in July or August, but these cases were all approved in June:

  • At the corner of Veterans Memorial Highway and Henderson Road (Z-11), an event facility is now zoned.  This parcel is adjacent to County parkland. MIC initially opposed the application, but dropped its opposition when changes were made to the application.

  • The front part of the Westside Baptist Church property on Floyd Road at Nickajack (Z-13) was zoned commercial, which allows an electronic sign.  The rear of the property remains residential.

  •  The southwest corner of Mableton Parkway and Old Powder Springs Road (Z-16) was zoned for light auto repair.  MIC worked with the applicant to get some stipulations to protect the community.

  • The child care center at the Vision for Souls Outreach Center Church on Factory Shoals Road (LUP-19) was approved.

Want to get involved?  Got questions?  Email Ben Clopper.
