Greetings, All!!

The recent heavy flooding has affected many people in Mableton and the surrounding communities.  If you need assistance, you can contact these Emergency Management Agencies:

  • FEMA 1-800-621-3362 or
  • GEMA 404-635-2154
  • Cobb EMA 770-944-4309

If you would like to help, there are numerous organizations that are taking donations of money and materials, or that can provide opportunities for you to volunteer.  These include: The United Way, Red Cross, Salvation Army, MUST Ministries and Sweetwater C.A.M.P.  In addition many local churches are organizing support efforts and local Krogers are accepting donations that will be passed on to charities to help with relief efforts.

Visit the Cobb County website for an overview of the situation in our area.

Most of the water is gone, but cleaning up will takes months, if not longer.  Your donations will be appreciated now - and in the weeks to come.

Regards,
Ben Clopper
MIC President

MIC Community Meeting on October 20

Mark your calendar now for Tuesday, October 20th at 7pm, when MIC will hold a Community Meeting at the South Cobb Community Center on 620 Lions Club Drive in Mableton.  The agenda will include zoning, parks, planning for holiday events, education, and updates on the River Line activities.

As always, we'll do our best to answer all your questions.  It's a great opportunity to find ways to get involved in your community and meet your neighbors from across town.

See you there!

River Line Master Plan Nearing Decision Time

After nearly a year in development, the County's River Line Master Plan, is once again scheduled for consideration by the Planning Commission.  On October 6th at 9am, the Planning Commission is expected to hear public comments on the Plan and make a recommendation to the Board of Commissioners to approve or reject the Plan.

The MIC Board of Directors, in response to your enthusiasm for the Plan, has voted to support the Plan, and encourages you to do the same.  You can show your support in two ways:

  1. Attend the hearing on October 6th at 9am and speak on behalf of the Plan.  Opponents of the Plan have appeared in large numbers at recent public meetings and hearings, so it's important for the Planning Commission and the Board of Commissioners to see Plan supporters, too.
  2. Sign the online petition before October 5th, so that MIC representatives can count your voice as we urge the Planning Commission to approve the Plan.  Forward the petition to all your Cobb County friends and family, so they can sign too.

Although many plan opponents did not participate in the scheduled public process, the County added public input meetings to hear their concerns, and the plan has been modified to meet many of them.  Now, it's time to move forward and adopt this plan for our future.

Hopefully, the final decision will be made by the Board of Commissioners on October 27th at their 7pm meeting.  We'll update everyone on the outcome of the Planning Commission meeting via email and at the MIC Community Meeting on October 20th.

Update on Park Land Purchase Recommendations

The Citizens Advisory Committee held its last planned public session meeting September 24th.  They are now finalizing their recommendations, which are expected to be presented to the Board of Commissioners in October.

The MIC Board continues to advocate for the Floyd Road property (behind the Rite Aid at the Floyd/Hicks Road intersection) and the Chattahoochee Greenway.  The Board alone cannot influence the outcome of these two nominations without a strong showing of community support, and we are grateful for the community efforts already underway.

However, if you have not already done so, please sign the
Floyd Road property online petition and the newly-created River Line Master Plan online petition.  The Master Plan supports public access to the river through the development of trails and more green space in the River Line area.

Encourage your Cobb County friends and neighbors to join in being heard.  Your participation at upcoming public meetings is equally important. Bring fellow supporters with you.  With numbers, we will be recognized.  Check the MIC website for key event postings or contact Dave McDaniel via email or by phone at 404-323-0608.

Get out in the great fall weather, go for a walk in the woods, and help take care of Nickajack Creek!  Sound like a good combination?

On October 14, the Planning Commission will consider a variance request from a trucking company on Discovery Boulevard (Z-82).  The company wants to put in a 2 story building in the front setback.  MIC will meet with the applicant's attorney and coordinate with the Legacy at the River Line homeowners.  Click here to learn more.

These two seats are for representatives of homeowners' associations or umbrella groups of homeowners' associations. Each association has one vote and may nominate a candidate. One seat represents Commission Districts 1 and 4; the other, Commission Districts 2 and 3.
