About MIC

The Mableton Improvement Coalition (MIC) is a membership-based, volunteer civic association working to protect and improve Mableton. MIC supports strong, existing neighborhoods, but recognizes that growth and redevelopment are needed if Mableton is to prosper. Mableton has a strong base of thriving neighborhoods, parks, and cultural resources. However, there is a need to redevelope key parts of the community to support current and future residents. MIC works hard to advocate these issues to appropriate government officials.

Like many other civic and homeowner-based organizations, MIC arose from the concerns of neighbors over a spate of unsuitable and overly dense zoning applications. In 2001, this group of concerned citizens decided to protect the character of this unincorporated section of Cobb County by forming an organization that would allow the community to speak with one voice on zoning issues.  In 2005, MIC officially became organized as a non-profit corporation with a board of directors, officers and members.

Since 2001, MIC has grown and expanded beyond its original zoning activity to a broader mission of supporting a community that is both attractive to prospective residents and a place where current residents want to stay and raise their families.  This effort includes encouraging residents to become active in their local schools and community organizations and activities, and encouraging existing quality businesses while attracting new ones to the area.  MIC volunteers provide holiday gifts to kids served by the local Boys and Girls Club, help with quarterly clean-ups under the Adopt-A-Mile program, support local youth athletic associations, and support the historic and greenspace preservation goals of The River Line Historic Area.

MIC has also supported other community organizations in their missions. For example, the Mableton Community Garden and the Imagine International Academy of Mableton consulted with MIC leadership and presented their ideas and vision to the community at MIC public meetings.

During its brief existence, MIC has held many public forums on issues of concern to its residents and held candidate forums to allow residents to see those would wish to lead them.  Through its networking, its relationship with government leaders, and its pragmatic approach to growth and development, MIC has succeeded in transforming the way in which Mableton is being developed and re-developed.  Both potential developers and homeowners know that they will have an able partner and advocate in MIC.
