MIC 2021 Accomplishments

MIC 2021 Accomplishments

What MIC Does

2021 was a remarkable year. Despite the continuing presence of the pandemic, Mableton continued experiencing unprecedented growth and development; exemplified by new housing starts, the influx of new businesses, the building of a new elementary school, an extensive renovation project at a local high school, evolving plans for greenway trail along the Chattahoochee River, added sidewalks, and more. While further improvement is still needed, Mableton is emerging as a shining community on the hill, with killer views of the Atlanta skyline, to boot!

Looking forward, 2022 will be an exciting year, with continued progress on the way. On April 2, 2022, we will be launching the first annual “Taste of Mableton,” to bring you “One Mableton; Stronger Together.” Taste of Mableton will showcase a fusion of flavors, passion, people, culture, service, and lifestyles. So, mark your calendar now, and stay tuned for more details later!

In closing, I would like to express our thanks to MIC board members, volunteers, sponsors, elected officials, and supporters. We appreciate your support and value your commitment to helping shape the redevelopment of the Mableton community.

We are pleased to share a recap of our 2021 Accomplishments

Respectfully,
Ray Thomas
Chairman

Mableton Improvement Coalition

Community Garden – MIC’s community garden on Floyd Road provides area residents with a chance to grow their own veggies and make new friends at same time. Plot rentals begin as low as $60/year. New to gardening? Veteran gardeners share their wisdom and we can link you with experts in the field, too. For more information, contact  Renee’ Booker.

Beautification – MIC volunteers make a difference! Click the links for information about MIC’s Adopt-A-Mile projects and to read about MIC’s Adopt-A-Stream work. MIC has adopted Floyd Road and Old Powder Springs Road and conducts quarterly roadside trash pick-ups. Similarly, we have adopted Nickajack Creek and remove trash from its banks in the winter months.

Farmers Market – From June through Auomplishmentsgust, local farmers bring the bounty of their gardens to the Mable House Complex for your shopping enjoyment. This Thursday morning market has become a tradition and social event! For more information, contact Dave McDaniel.

Zoning – MIC’s Zoning Committee analyzes every application filed within the unincorporated 30126 zip code and works with the applicants, county staff and the Board of Commissioners to find the best result for Mableton. With the perspective that development can positive and that redevelopment is critically needed, MIC collects community feedback, delves into the details and then speaks for our community. For more information contact Robin Meyer.

Economic Development – MIC knows that a complete community is one with a vibrant commercial district. We are working to distinguish our community, support new and existing businesses, educate decision makers about Mableton, advocate for Mableton, collaborate on beautification projects and support workforce development. For more information contact Maxine Wilson.

HOA Network — MIC’s HOA Network provides homeowner associations with a vehicle for sharing ideas and best practices, improve communications and connections, and build greater advocacy and community engagement. Is your HOA a member? For more information, contact Ray Thomas.

Education – Education is critical to our community and MIC is working with residents, faith leaders, nonprofits, and the business community to support. Our primary objective is to identify and spotlight the positive aspects of the educational experience in Mableton. If you’d like to join this effort, contact Nate Smith.

Parks – Because of MIC’s advocacy for public access to county property in the River Line area, a new park will soon open to the public. MIC has also worked with county officials to bring improvements to many existing Mableton parks and trails. For more information, contact Demetrius Lockett.

Holiday Project – MIC organizes Secret Santas to shop and deliver gifts for kids at the Mableton Boys & Girls Club each holiday season. For more information about Secret Santa, contact Julie Carrick.

Public Safety – Neighborhood Watch programs are a powerful tool for all neighborhoods, but especially in areas without HOAs. MIC has assisted two neighborhoods in establishing active Neighborhood Watch programs in conjunction with Cobb Police. For more information, contact Joel Cope.

Communication – MIC wants to connect Mableton! We manage the Mableton Community Facebook Group with thousands of members and lots of conversation! We also present MIC’s activities through our Facebook page and this website, as well as provide a free monthly newsletter. Community meetings and participation in community events give us the opportunity to meet you in person or virtually. For more information, contact Michelle Bradley.

Marketing — We are working to promote Mableton and bring more attention to our community and to MIC. We partner with other community organizations, businesses and churches to bring virtual and in-person events to our community. For more information, contact Michelle Bradley.
