Workforce Development – Job Training

MIC’s Economic Development Committee supports job training and career advancement programs and encourages both businesses and residents to utilize their services. Here is information provided by those programs. Please reach out to them!

Construction Ready

Construction Ready provides tuition-free construction career training at four training facilities including: Build Cobb (at the Chattahoochee Tech Marietta Campus), Westside Works (west wide of Atlanta), Aerotropolis (at Impact Church, East Point) and Georgia Hill (at the Georgia Hill Neighborhood Center, Atlanta). All interested applicants must register at www.constructionready.us to receive an appointment to attend a mandatory information session.

The program is run for 4 weeks, Monday through Friday, from 7:30am to 5pm, covering the fundamentals of construction and skilled trades consisting of instructor-led lectures, written exams, hand- on exercises, a group carpentry project, and professional and personal development with a job placement component. The program is also drug-free and background friendly. However, sexual offenses of any kind and methamphetamine drug charges will disqualify an individual from the program. All interested participants must also pass the TABE literacy assessment at a sixth grade level or higher.

Construction Ready can be a fast track for motivated individuals to get a foot in the door to be a part of major commercial construction projects in metro Atlanta or nationwide. The program is great for veterans, those in career transition, out-of-school youth not going straight to college and our returning citizens. Construction Ready is a way to earn nationally recognized credentials and jump start a lucrative career in the booming construction industry. Applications accepted on an ongoing basis. Construction Ready reports a 100% placement rate at all four locations for 2019 and a one-year retention rate of 75% since its inception in 2014.

Technology Career Program

The TechBridge Technology Career Program in partnership with Goodwill of North Georgia is a free, part time 16-week technology and business education program designed to prepare unemployed or underemployed adults for a career in the growing technology job market. Upon graduation from the education program, participants interview with partner employers for entry level technology roles and receive up to one year of career coaching and mentorship.

The program focus is to provide adults with the skills and support needed to get and succeed in middle-class jobs. The current cohort provides training in the areas of web technologies and Salesforce.com, based on the high demand for these skills, the ability to quickly demonstrate proficiency, and employer’s commitment to provide access to job opportunities. Students also receive professional and money management education, so graduates have a solid foundation for success in their new career and future.

Per Scholas – CompTIA A+ and Network+ Program

The 15-week network support training prepares adults to sit for and pass the CompTIA A+ and Network+ certification exams. Students will gain skills in computer maintenance, installation, troubleshooting, network security concepts, mobile technology, and in-demand customer service.  Additional coursework provides instruction on operating systems, mobile devices, firewalls and the cloud, with a weekly focus on topics like interviewing skills and customer service.

The IT Support program offers the CompTIA A+ certification and professional skills development, preparing students to fill a wide range of entry-level technology jobs, including Help Desk Analyst, Desktop Support Technician, Field Technician, junior Project Manager, and many more. The IT Fundamentals (8 weeks) offers CompTIA IT Fundamentals Certification and provides hands on instruction within 5 technical domains including: software, hardware, security and networking. Training is designed to provide candidates with the skills required to work in a systems support specialist role.

Healthcare Environmental Services

This 7-week program is designed to prepare adults for a career in the growing fields of healthcare cleaning and environmental services. Individuals receive hands-on training in infection control procedures, safe handling, patient interaction best practices, job readiness and life skills. The program offers industry certifications and strong entry-level compensation packages. The last two weeks of training consist of paid on-the-job training.  The program offers industry certifications, strong entry-level compensation packages, and plans to help students advance in their careers.
